Journeyman Painter

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dependable Journeyman Painter who can not only perform high-quality painting work but also take a leadership role on job sites. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in surface preparation and finish application, and can oversee and guide a team to ensure timely, professional results. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to lead by example in both craftsmanship and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, sanding, caulking, and patching.
  • Apply paint, varnish, stain, enamel, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders to determine scope and materials.
  • Erect scaffolding or set up ladders safely to access high areas.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work environment.
  • Enforce and follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
  • Lead and coordinate a team of painters to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to less experienced team members.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and crew to resolve issues and keep projects on track.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal painting apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 5+ years of professional painting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation, coating types, and application techniques.
  • Ability to lead a team, delegate tasks, and maintain project schedules.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy materials, work at heights, and perform manual labor.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with specialized coatings (e.g., epoxy, waterproofing).
  • Knowledge of drywall repair and/or wallpaper installation.
